Today, Soluri Architecture participated in a Design Corps webinar advising NYC based restaurants on guidelines and best practices for participating in the Open Restaurant program administered by NYC’s Department of Transportation (DOT).
The webinar included presentations from the NYC design community (AIANY, Rockwell Group, Design Advocates & Soluri Architecture) and 3 city agencies including the NYC Economic Development Corporation (EDC), NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) and the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS). Our goal with this webinar was to help restaurants interpret, understand, and comply with the requirements of NYC’s Outdoor Dining program while illustrating how Design Corps can assist throughout the process. By including the relevant city agencies in the webinar, we helped to consolidate all pieces of the reopening puzzle to create a comprehensive and trusted starting point.
The webinar was created and produced by the Small Business working group founded and led by Soluri Architecture’s principal, Andre Soluri, and operates under the umbrella of the Unified New York Task Force at the American Institute of Architects New York (AIANY). The goal of this working group is to create and produce a series of webinars that consolidate and educate the small business community about strategies (specific to their industry) for how to reopen and remain open during this pandemic using easy to understand graphics for our intended audience which are non-technical business owners.
The Design Corps (which Soluri Architecture helped co-found through the AIANY), is a collaboration between AIANY, NYC EDC, Design Advocates and NYCxDesign to create a platform for architects and the design community to provide pro-bono services to restaurants struggling to survive this pandemic. The Design Corps demonstrates how architecture and design-thinking can help address some of the many challenges of this pandemic and is about small businesses coming together to help other small businesses – because together we can do big things.
